Former TV weather girl and Breakfast TV co-host Kay Gregory will stand down at October's local body elections after just one term on the Hamilton City Council.
Councillor Gregory Mulberry Handbags swooped on to the council three years ago, getting more votes than any other candidate, but said she had found it hard to juggle council duties with her busy role as a marriage and funeral celebrant.
"I hate saying no to people when they ask you to take their mother's funeral," the west ward councillor said.
Ms Gregory had enjoyed her flirt with politics, but said her long- term plan revolved around her role as a celebrant. She had also struggled with the speed at which big decisions were made and had been surprised at seiko wrist watches the processes the council had to go through to get anything achieved. mens Oris watches "There's often reason for why you can't achieve things and that can be quite disheartening sometimes. I don't think people realise how much time is put into making decisions and how much time is spent discussing stuff."
Ms Gregory said her most rewarding work on council had been helping people in the community who phoned her to get help fixing the smaller things.
Ms Gregory plans to help fellow west ward councillor Angela O'Leary and Hamilton Mayor Bob Simcock in their election campaigns.
